As you know, we feature a lot of the press we get on this blog, but we also like to offer tips and resources where we can. We know planning a wedding is an often stressful (but very rewarding!) time, so we’re here to help.
This is a special guest post by the fantastic Hillary B. We wanted to feature a look at bridal fashion here on the blog, so asked someone who has experience in this varied field.
Whether you’re looking for yourself or looking for someone else (perhaps a daughter or sister?) this Guide will shed some light on the dos and donts of this year’s wedding season.
Of course, it’s important to maintain your own vision when planning your big day. Still, it’s good to be informed and an article like this, which jumps into celebrity and mainstream trends, is always useful.
Without further ado, here’s a glimpse into bridal fashions for 2015 and what to expect…
Gold is the New Blush
Last year, shades of pink and blush were a hot trend in bridal gown fashion. Whether brides were choosing to add accents of pink in the form of bridal sashes or were instead choosing a wedding gown that was head-to-toe in blush, shades of pink were clearly last year’s hottest bridal color trend.
This year, however, you can expect to see incredibly chic wedding dresses that follow suit – but are instead lined with shades of gold, nude, or taupe. Some wedding gown designers are choosing to design their dresses with a soft tone of champagne – Others are choosing a bolder shade of taupe or brown in which to sample their gowns. If you are a 2015 bride who isn’t afraid to stand out, choose an unusual color for a wedding gown that will stand apart from the rest.
Dramatic Silhouettes
Mermaid dresses have always been a trend, however they have really picked up steam in the last year. With celebrity brides (such as Hilary Duff) not shying away from a more dramatic mermaid silhouette, many brides are following suit and choosing a gown with an extremely dramatic shape.
Expect 2015’s gowns to come in all shapes and sizes, however expect the mermaid style gown to pick up even more steam in the coming year. Brides are going to find themselves not wanting to hide their figures, preferring to look that perfect combination of bold, sexy, and still classy. A dramatic mermaid silhouette does just that, all while projecting a modern take on a classic look.
The Veil Takes Centre Stage
Angelina Jolie took everyone by surprise when she wore a veil with details decorated by her children. A veil is a very traditional concept that some brides shy away from for that very reason. However, we see many brides following suit and choosing to make the veil their main event.
If you are more traditional than Miss Jolie-Pitt, try a veil with a beautiful ivory horsehair edging that will make a subtle contrast against your gown. If you are looking for a more memorable veil to complete your bridal vision, a veil edges with black lace (rather than ivory) will make a modern statement at your wedding.
Backless Beauty
The hottest trend in bridal gown fashion is definitely having a backless gown. While not a trend that every bride will feel comfortable with, a backless gown is perfect for a bride who wants to look distinct and sexy on her big day. Brides who choose this look will have to be ok with straps – some gowns have backs so low that not having straps and the dress still staying up is a near impossibility.
Expect the Unexpected
Above all things, the biggest wedding fashion trend is a bride who isn’t afraid to be herself. Whether it is through choosing a non-traditional silhouette, color, length, or other unexpected choice, a bride who isn’t afraid to be herself is one that will feel absolutely the best at the wedding.
Maybe you’re going for more of an alternative look – like a vintage wedding or a bohemian wedding? Feel free to add a comment below if we’ve failed to mention anything that you think is important in wedding fashion this year.
